Volunteers serve in a variety of capacities at Hospice Care of South Carolina.  Some work directly with patients, while others
prefer assisting with administrative duties.  Here are some of the ways Hospice Care volunteers can make a difference.
 

• Offer emotional support through interacting with the patient and family

• Provide grief support by sending cards, making phone calls, or making personal visits to families who have lost love ones

• Provide administrative and clerical support in the office

• Assist with ongoing activities such as building ramps, yard work, and home improvements

• Spread the news of the quality care offered by Hospice Care to organizations and groups in the community

Volunteer Training 

To make sure volunteers are fully aware of Hospice Care of South Carolina’s mission, services and programs, and feel comfortable
with their responsibilities, each volunteer is required to participate in a comprehensive training program.  These trainings are
designed for all types of volunteers and can vary depending on the type of volunteer service. 

Through lectures, discussions, and hands-on training, volunteers will become knowledgeable about Hospice Care of South Carolina
and the guiding philosophy of hospice.  Workshops expose volunteers to the multiple physical and emotional challenges confronting
the terminally ill and their families.  Training also focuses on communication skills, and helps volunteers examine their own
perceptions and feelings about death and dying.

Volunteers are an essential part of the Hospice Care of South Carolina team.  In so many ways, their special talents, interests and
compassion enhance the lives of the patients and families we serve.  As Hospice Care seeks to provide quality caring services to a
